Local SEO checklist for contractors

The map pack and the service pages decide most of the calls. This is the short list of what actually moves them.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Put the right work first.

Most contractor sites lose calls for a small set of reasons. The Google Business Profile is incomplete. The service pages do not answer the question in the first sentence. The phone number is an image or loads late. Location pages are city-name swaps. Reviews do not name the job. Fixing those five things moves more calls than adding blog posts or buying links.

This checklist is the order we use. Start at the top. Do not skip to content until the profile and the core pages are right.

THE STRATEGY / 01

WARDORX / FOUNDATION / FOCUSDrag to rotate
01

1. Google Business Profile

Primary category matches the main trade (HVAC contractor, Plumber, Electrician, Roofing contractor). Secondary categories cover the specific services. Services list is filled with the jobs you actually sell, using the names customers search. Photos are recent and from real jobs. Reviews have replies that name the job type. Hours are correct. Service area matches where you actually dispatch.

Profile management is $149 a month with no contract if you want this handled. One-time setup or recovery is $349.

02

2. Phone number and speed

The phone number is selectable text above the fold on every page. It is not inside an image. The emergency pages load the number before anything else. Core Web Vitals on the call button and the quote form are checked. Page builders that wrap those elements in heavy scripts lose calls.

03

3. Service pages that answer first

Each major service has its own page. The first sentence under the heading answers the question. Emergency pages state the dispatch window and the starting price. Cost pages publish a range. Diagnostic pages list the common causes and when to call. No page tries to serve emergency and planned work at the same time.

4. Reviews

Ask for the review after the job is closed. The request can mention the job type. Reply to every review and include the job type in the reply. Do not ask for keyword-stuffed reviews. That gets profiles suspended.

05

5. Location pages only with real facts

A location page publishes only if it has information that exists nowhere else: neighbourhoods served, response time from your data, permit rules for that municipality, photos from jobs there, a testimonial from there. City-name swaps get filtered and can drag the rest of the site down.

06

6. Schema and consistency

LocalBusiness or the trade-specific schema is on the site. Name, phone, and service area match the Google Business Profile and the main directories. Differences split the signals.

07

7. What to skip until the above is done

Blog posts that do not answer a customer question. Buying links. Publishing an llms.txt file. Adding more location pages without facts. Ranking reports that do not show calls.

08

Measurement

Track calls from the site and from the profile. A ranking that does not produce a call is not a result. The monthly report from the SEO retainer shows the calls and the pages that received them.

09

Next step

Most contractors need the profile fixed and the core service pages rewritten before anything else. The 14-page fullstack site handles the pages. The $149 profile management handles the map pack. Both can start without a long contract.

Call +1 (250) 344-1619 or book at https://www.wardorx.com/book. Bring the site and the profile link. We will say which items on this list are the actual gap.

10

Order of operations

Fix the profile first if the map pack is empty. Then fix the phone number and page speed on the existing site. Then rewrite or add the core service pages so they answer first. Then add location pages only where you have facts. Tracking and reports come after the pages exist. Starting with a ranking report before the profile and pages are fixed wastes the month.

11

Common failures

Keyword-stuffed business name on the profile. Primary category set to "Contractor" instead of the specific trade. Services list empty. Phone number inside a header image. Service pages that open with three paragraphs of company history. Location pages that only change the city name. Reviews with no replies. Any one of these is enough to lose the calls.

12

What the 14-day build covers

The build ships the service pages, the emergency path, the schema, and the fast phone number. You own the code. The first 10 clients get it free if they supply the domain. After that the price is published. The SEO month adds more pages after launch.

13

Profile versus site

Some contractors only need the profile managed. Others need the site rebuilt because the current one cannot take a call or a quote. We say which one on the call. We do not sell a rebuild to a site that only needs the profile updated.

14

Service page template that works

Heading that matches the search. First sentence that answers it. Dispatch window or cost range in the first screen. Phone number as text. Photos from real jobs. Short FAQ at the bottom with the questions techs already answer. Internal link to the related cost or emergency page. That is the page. Anything longer than that needs a reason.

15

Profile services list

List every job you take. Furnace replacement, not just HVAC. Panel upgrade, not just electrical. Hail damage repair, not just roofing. Google shows these services on the profile when the search matches. An empty services list misses those searches.

16

Review request timing

Send the request when the job is closed and the customer is still on site or has just paid. The message can say "If the furnace replacement went well, a review helps." Do not script the exact words. Replies from you should name the job.

17

What we check on the audit

Profile categories and services. Phone number placement and load time. Whether service pages answer first. Whether location pages have unique facts. Review reply rate. Schema consistency. We send the notes before the call so the 30 minutes are useful.

Call +1 (250) 344-1619 or book at https://www.wardorx.com/book.

18

Additional practical notes

The work follows the same rules as the rest of the site. No invented statistics. No ranking guarantees. No city-name swaps. Pages publish only when they contain facts that exist nowhere else or answer a question customers already ask. You own the output. The monthly services can be cancelled. The goal is calls from the map pack and the service pages, measured by the tracking we set up, not by a position report.

If the current site already has the phone as text, answer-first service pages, and a complete profile, the next step may be nothing or only the profile management. We say that on the call. We do not sell a rebuild or a retainer to a business that does not need one.

Photos, dispatch data, and job notes from your crew are what make the pages specific. Without them the pages stay generic and do not rank or convert. Send what you have. We write the first draft. You correct it.
